How much does Vocal Media pay? Great question…
First off, yes, this is a repost from my other blog, Why Are You Still Working? Okay, what is Vocal? Well, Vocal.media is just a submission platform for Jerrick Media. Vocal is not a magazine or company; it’s just a middle man, basically. So how much does vocal media pay? Well, the real question is, how much does Jerrick Media pay writers who submit articles via Vocal.media platform?
Wait, let’s just make sure we know who Jerrick Media is first, really fast:
Jerrick is a technology company focused on the development of digital communities, targeted marketing of branded digital content, and e-commerce opportunities. Core to Jerrick’s unique capabilities is Vocal, a proprietary long-form social publishing platform.
Okay, that’s Jerrick in a nutshell. If you’re super into companies and stock profiles, you can view Jerrick Media’s stock price here.
But my guess is, most of you just want to know how Vocal.media works and how much it pays…
How Does Vocal Media Work?
Any aspiring writers can sign up on the Vocal site and submit directly to any of the 24 (and counting) online magazines owned by Jerrick Media.
If one of the Jerrick Media editors approve the submission, then it gets posted and monetized. See, I told you it’s simple! So, after you sign up/sign in, it takes you to your dashboard…
After you are signed in and can see your Vocal.media dashboard, you’ll see your options to edit your profile, a tab for your stories (articles you have published or that are in draft or awaiting editorial review), a place to see your statistics, and a big button to create a new post, or story. These are all super intuitive, so I won’t get into details on how to update your profile and whatnot. It’s too easy; you’ll understand as soon as you see it. But I will show you some details about the stats if you keep scrolling, and I can drop a few tips about creating new posts in Vocal, too.
But before we get that far, you’ll still wanting to know if it is worth all the effort? “How Much Does Vocal Media Pay?,” “How Much Does Vocal Media Pay?” Okay, okay, I hear you!!
Pros and Cons of Writing for Vocal Media
Is writing for Vocal.media a good idea for writers? Well, let me give you my list of pros and cons… (you can also review my reply to a Reddit post, “Is ‘Vocal Media’ legit?”)
CON: Jerrick Media / Vocal.media doesn’t pay upfront for articles (unless they hire you outside of the Vocal submission platform, but I don’t know if they still do that) but…
PRO: …if a piece does well, then the writer gets paid by performance. I think Vocal’s pay scheme breaks down to $1 for 250 views. So how much does Vocal Media pay? There’s your answer!
Now, I was lucky enough to have been writing odd pieces for them BEFORE Jerrick Media decided to launch a Beta version of this relatively new Vocal.media platform.
Again, I was paid a flat fee for many of the articles I wrote for Jerrick Media, before and during the Vocal.media Beta phase.
But now that the platform has been live a few months, I am, in essence, just like any other authors out there who want to contribute. I won’t be paid per piece but by performance. Here’s a shot of what the stats page on the Vocal.media dashboard looks like.
NOTE: These are from my actual Vocal.media dashboard!
My best performing article to date is Most Underrated Sci-Fi movies! Around 100,000 views so far…

My hope is the same little boost will happen to a few of the others, but I know Vocal / Jerrick Media have lots of other writers and pieces to deal with. In fact, the numbers are going daily, because they keep opening new sites, and they are open to publishing just about anything…
CON: That is why it is really incumbent on the writers to promote their own work, with this and any other freelance endeavor! That’s also why, to a big extent, the clout which goes along with getting published is somewhat diminished…if Jerrick Media publishs nearly everything they get (and I’m not saying they do), then you aren’t that special. Neither am I!
Well, we’ll see. I haven’t written a lot of new content for Jerrick since the Vocal.media site went live.
That’s just me, though. I prefer to get paid immediately upon completion of a writing gig, versus waiting and hoping for money to trickle in…money which might never come. Indeed, most of my posts haven’t made a dime. So, this is a good time for me to interrupt to mention, you might also want to try How to Make Money on Upwork – Fast!
Which Sites Does Vocal Media Manage?
PRO: As mentioned, they have 24 online mags to choose from; after you create your post, you submit for review and it’ll ask which magazine you are submitting to; here’s a few of them:
Do I Have to Include Product Links in My Vocal Media Post?
PRO: As far as drafting the actual articles, it is pretty intuitive but they have built a few training posts to help writers figure it out. For me, one of the coolest bits was being able to copy an Amazon product URL and paste it into their product placement cell… It automatically links to their affiliate code.
CON: I doubt that any products sold from the affiliate link will translate to shared profit for the author, and many of my own posts didn’t ever contain product placements… But there was never any pressure to include product placements anyways. Indeed I never had any pressure in any of my dealings with them. It’s been a pleasant experience working with their staff so far! (And no, nobody asked me to write that. I’m not on their paid staff, and have never even met anyone in their office).
So sometimes in my posts on Vocal.media did include product links; sometimes not. My earliest posts, yes, because those were listicles that they specifically had asked for. And those types of posts do perform well, based on the stats I’ve seen. I realize they aren’t always the most fun things to write, but then again it was always interesting for me to research and to learn about new books and videos.
Hey, one way to look at it is, the more money Jerrick Media makes, the better they are able to advertise…and thus more traffic for your monetized posts!
Okay, there’s my plug for Vocal / Jerrick Media. NOTE: It wasn’t asked for, but I felt like sharing because I do think it’s an intriguing new option for niche writers. So I recommend giving it a try!
As a part-time freelancer, I must say I haven’t seen a platform quite like this in my ventures to date. Not saying it is 100% unique, because if I say that some wiseass will prove me wrong… But it is new to me in any case.
Well, honestly I’m not doing much writing these days, due to pain in my arms, elbow, wrists, etc… Sometimes I’ll write a new post for my site ScumHive.com.
I also periodically do articles for other sites; I was even published in Forbes (and wrote an article on How To Get an Article Posted on Forbes…). I’ve turned towards branding and brand marketing, via my new media company, Sable Mare Media, LLC.

How Does Vocal Media Actually Pay Writers?
How do you get paid on Vocal.media, you may wonder…? Vocal / Jerrick Media uses another site, Stripe.com, which processed payments directly into your bank account. I cannot confirm that it will take accounts from any country or not; based on my reading, it looks like they take several but some are being beta tested and some weren’t listed all all. But for US-based writers, or those with US bank accounts, you’ll have no issues…
